The Edelrid high jump contest, which always features attempts to beat the current world record, has been held for the 7th time at the OutDoor trade show in Friedrichshafen.

Date: Sunday, 17.07.2011 | 12:00 p.m.
Place: Messe Friedrichshafen | Bouldering wall, Foyer East
Organised by the publisher tmms, the contest had a starting line-up of 28 participants seeking to be crowned this year’s winners.
At the request of the participants, the target handhold was often only moved up by 2.5 cm during the course of the event, so it was a long time before the leaders emerged. But the tide started to turn from a height of 2.26 m and the hard-fought battle for the second to fifth places continued through to the end. Last year’s winner, Peter Würth (D), was a confident winner in the men’s section at 2.60 metres, ahead of Simon Bosler (D) and Alex Hille (D). Peter Würth came to grief, however, when the handhold was moved up to a new world record height of 2.88 metres. The current world record is 2.87 metres (2.17 women) and was set just three weeks ago in Sheffield by Skyler Weekes from the USA. In the women’s event, Sabine Knabl of Austria managed to jump into first place ahead of Emilie Gerhardt and Katinka Mühlschlegel with a height of 1.87.
